Before anyone jumps ahead, let me clarify that we are still waiting for a final word on our pre-approval. BUT something significant happened yesterday!
A week ago Wednesday (the 8th), the CCCWA (China Center for Children’s Welfare and Adoption) returned from holiday, and our paperwork was waiting for them. [Reminder: we are requesting 2 waivers to be able to move forward with adopting our little girl.] We knew that we were looking at a typically two-week wait to hear back from them. Imagine my surprise when Monday of this week (a mere 5 days later) I received a late-night email asking me to call our agency the next morning (no, I did NOT fall asleep easily that night!).
The next morning’s conversation was rather neutral in that our agency had heard back from the CCCWA requesting more detailed information regarding our finances. Obviously not the immediate “Yes” that we were hoping for but not a “No” either. We were sent the financial form that is usually a part of the dossier packet to fill out early, giving the breakdown of our numbers for our net worth.
We also followed up on researching the idea of our self-owned businesses having a market value (as suggested by our agency). This has definitely been a process for learning a lot of new things! We did end up finding good information and were able to put conservative values on our businesses. It didn’t put us over the line, but it did raise our numbers nicely. I sent off the form to AAC and gave our agent a call to explain the new number.
THAT’S when things got interesting! As we were talking, she asked, “Do you have homeowner’s insurance?” Yes, we do! “Does part of your policy cover personal property?” Why yes, it does! We had already done a home walk-through estimating what we could sell our possessions for as a part of the net value calculations. However, she had just learned that when calculating net value, we can use the amount that our personal property is INSURED for under a homeowner’s policy. And just like that, we were over China’s net value requirement!!!
If you haven’t been able to put all of pieces together yet, let me assist . . . we do NOT need to request a waiver based on our net value! We are down to one waiver request! We just got one large step closer to getting a “Yes” from the CCCWA!
And we are thrilled! In May, I wrote: “We also know that God will take us where He wants us to go. And if that is to China, then we might as well get our passports ready . . . because we will be going where He leads!” We feel His leading continue as this roadblock which seemed so daunting has crumbled to the wayside!
