Bringing the school year to an end (cheers for finishing homeschool 1st grade with Firstborn!) and preparing for our spring dance performance AND finishing our backyard project (woohoo!) have kept us very busy for the last 2 weeks, which is how long it has been since I’ve posted an update. And things have not been quiet in the area of adoption either!
First, the “bad” news. On Monday June 2nd, I got a call from our adoption agency, All God’s Children International . . . there is no child currently meeting our parameters on the Waiting Child list. Our case worker did assure me that the China director was pleased with our Medical Conditions parameters and what we are open to accepting. The largest two factors making it difficult to match us with a child right now are gender (girls make up less than half of the Waiting Child list) and age (10 months or more younger than the twins, so 2 ½ max).
In the meantime, our application was preliminarily accepted, and I began another round of paperwork to gather more supporting documents. These provided more specific details for anything that raised any questions. I submitted those last week and turned in paperwork from my doctor’s office this week. Whew!
Then, the “good” news. This last Monday, June 9th, I got another call from our case worker (who has been a pleasure to work with and excellent at communication). All of the paperwork that had been submitted with the application had been looked over at their weekly meeting, and the China program people feel fairly confident that we will be granted the waivers for a Special Focus child in China! They of course cannot guarantee it, but WOW! This is one answer to prayer already after some rather discouraging weeks! But we were also faced with another decision to make – they are willing to accept us to the China program now and begin to collect all of the information for our dossier. This moves us closer to the end goal and would speed up getting our daughter home once we have been accepted by the China Center for Children’s Welfare and Adoption (CCCWA). However, it also means substantially more fees involved with the possibility that China might still turn us down.
Please be praying with us! We feel led to wait for the moment being, as our application is good until the end of August, in order to be good stewards of our resources. At the same time, we also want to be willing to take those leaps of faith that God may yet call us to.
And the final step of our application: a detailed funding plan for the adoption. That will be my main task with my “spare” time next week. And quite probably the topic of my next blog. Please pray with us for the wisdom to pursue all avenues for funding and for the financial provision to bring our daughter home as quickly as possible once God introduces her to us.
So we tiptoe and leap by turn . . . this will be a beautiful dance down the path where He leads!
